First introduced in 1954, the Universal Geneve Polerouter was worn by SAS pilots flying the Polar route for the first time in the history of commercial air flight. That's also where the iconic model gets its name. Its remarkable purpose played a part in its iconic status, yes, but it also owes a lot to having been designed by the legendary Gerald Genta and having been manufactured by one of, if not the most respected and influential watch brand in the history of horology. To put it bluntly, it was fated to become a horological icon.
